Questions people ask about implants
Most adults with healthy gums are. What matters is the amount and quality of bone in your jaw, which is exactly what the 3D CBCT scan shows. If there is low bone density or bone loss, there are usually options, such as grafting or a different implant position, and your implant dentist will explain them at the consultation.
A CBCT scan is a three-dimensional x-ray of your jaw. It shows bone volume, nerves and sinuses, so implant positions are planned precisely before anything is placed. It takes seconds and uses a low dose of radiation. A standard flat x-ray can't show the same detail.
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, and most patients say it's easier than they expected. If you're anxious, sedation is available with a senior consultant anaesthetist, so you can be relaxed throughout and remember very little of it.
It depends on your case. You will be fitted with an artificial tooth/teeth that match your other teeth, so you are not left with any gaps. Implants usually heal for a few months before the final teeth are fitted. Your written plan sets out the timeline for you.
Treatment is quoted after your scan, because the plan depends on what it shows. Costs are set out stage by stage with nothing hidden, and finance can spread treatment into monthly payments starting from as little as a few pounds a day, subject to status.
Implants placed at Manor Dental Care are covered by a five-year warranty. The warranty is upheld provided you attend your check-up appointments every six months. Full terms are available at the practice and explained at your consultation.
